Nutrition & Labelling

Access to healthy, nutritious food shouldn't be a luxury.

We're committed to offering grocery options with clear, accurate product labelling so every New Zealander can make informed choices - whatever their budget, preferences, tastes or dietary needs.

Here's how we do it:

Health Star Rating

The Health Star Rating system makes it quick and easy to compare the nutritional value of similar packaged foods. The more stars, the healthier the choice – ratings range from 0.5 to 5 stars, based on the energy, saturated fat, sodium and sugar content, balanced with positive components such as protein, dietary fibre, fruit and vegetable content.

We’re committed to displaying Health Star Ratings on all relevant Pams packaged products, so you can make better choices at a glance.

5+ A Day Labelling

The 5+ A Day Charitable Trust encourages all New Zealanders to eat at least five servings of colourful, fresh vegetables and two servings of fruit every day for better health.

Where possible, we include 5+ A Day labelling on Pams produce to encourage you to enjoy more fresh fruit and vegetables.

Heart Foundation Reformulation Programme

We work closely with the Heart Foundation through its Food Reformulation Programme to improve the health of New Zealanders.  Where possible, by gradually reducing salt and sugar and saturated fat in everyday products – without compromising on taste – we make healthier choices more accessible and affordable.

This collaboration helps ensure popular foods contribute to better heart health across Aotearoa New Zealand.
